C2YA International, a grass root NGO working in collaboration with the DREAM Project initially carried out an on-site visit to OLD FADAMA which was initially selected as the study area for the DREAM Project. On our visit we engaged with two with assembly men of the OLD FADAMA area. Below are pictures of our first meetings with assembly men of the OLD FADAMA area.
Due to some cogent reasons, it was established in our earlier meeting with Prof. Henry and Prof. Raymound that the dwellers of the OLD FADAMA site are temporary which seek to suggest that the Government of Ghana has plans of ejecting dwellers or demolished that slum in the near future. In view of this C2YA International had to quickly identify some other slums site which has permanent dwellers, i.e. where ground rent is paid to state authorities for occupying the land. Hence our decision to visit Ashiaman Municipality in Greater Accra region. Ashiaman is located about 5 kilometers north of Tema and 30 Kilometers away from Accra central.
Within Ashiaman, there are many slums such as Tulaku, Taabo line and Valco Flat. We met with the assembly men and some unit committee heads of both Tulaku and Taabo line respectively who took us round the areas.
Below are footages of our first tour to various Slums line i.e. Tulaku and Taabo line
